Kate's secret nickname for Louis revealed

Kate Middleton has let slip the adorable nickname she has for Prince Louis, as her youngest child attended his first royal engagement.

During a visit to a Scouts hut in the UK city of Slough for the Big Help Out-day of charity work, the Prince and Princess of Wales were joined by their three children to lend a helping hand.

Royal fans were delighted to see George, Charlotte and Louis join in the action, and were entertained by Prince Louis' hilarious facial expressions during the royal outing.

As a reward for their hard work, the family enjoyed roasting marshmallows over an open fire, with Kate getting involved to help the kids make s'mores as Prince William held their jackets.

Prince Louis enjoyed the marshmallows off the stick without being toasted, with the young royal reportedly overheard telling organisers, "I like mine just like this".

That moment came just before his mum told him to throw the stick "in the fire Lou-bugs", revealing her sweet nickname for him.

Prince Louis, who was seen shovelling sand and dirt as well as wheeling the wheelbarrow around the property, was so engrossed with his tasks that at one point, he didn't even hear his mum ask if he needed a hand.

As the family engaged in several tasks to help renovate the Scouts hut, the youngest member of the family also joined his father and brother in leaving his hand-print on a mural to signify their involvement.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte undertook their first royal engagement last June, joining their parents in Wales during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The real reason for Prince Louis’ special name revealed

When Prince Louis was born in April 2018, the world had to wait a handful of days to find out what name William and Kate had chosen to bestow upon their newborn son.

Eventually, however, the news was broken across the world through a statement from the Royal family - and as typical in the age of social media, through a tweet.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles,” it was announced.

“The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”

The name had come as quite the surprise in the betting world, with many having put money on the young prince being called Arthur. But it was ultimately Louis - a name originating from France and Germany that means ‘famous warrior’ or ‘famous in battle’ - that reigned supreme.

As for why the royal couple had not immediately informed the world that he would be Louis, the reason was reportedly quite simple: they just hadn’t had an easy time agreeing.

“They didn’t know if they were having a boy or a girl,” a source said of the delay. “When he arrived they started thinking through things. They were not keeping it to themselves. They were deciding still.”

It was a move that reflected that of William’s own parents, as the late Princess Diana and now-King Charles had differing opinions - she reportedly preferred the likes of Sebastian and Oliver, while he had his hopes pinned on Albert.

Louis is a name that the young royal actually shares with his father - it’s William’s middle name. The latter’s name was chosen by Charles, who was paying tribute to the late Lord Louis Mountbatten.

Mountbatten, as well as being Charles’ friend and mentor, was Queen Victoria’s great-grandson, and was related to both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

His name was one that had been passed down throughout the family, with his father also named Louis, and even Prince Philip’s grandfather, Prince Louis of Battenberg.

Despite its historical and sentimental significance for the family, it has been said that William and Kate just liked it - a theory further supported by their decision to make Louis one of their eldest son’s middle names, too.

As historian Dr Judith Rowbotham explained at the time, while Louis had been something of a surprising choice, it had also been a safe one, and a tribute as well as “an acknowledgement of a wider heritage.”

The significance of this was not lost on fans of the royal family, who - at the time - were also celebrating the once-in-a-century record that the newborn Louis had broken upon entering the world.

For Louis, at his 8lb 7oz (~3.83kg) weight, had been the heaviest royal baby boy born in 100 years. His brother George had measured in at three ounces less at the time of his birth.

Louis did not, however, secure the title of ‘heaviest royal baby ever’. That bragging right instead belongs to Savannah Phillips, who was 8lb 8oz (~8.86kg) upon her birth in 2010.

Images: Getty

Palace celebrates Prince Louis with new birthday photos

The royal family have celebrated Prince Louis’ fifth birthday with two new pictures of the young royal shared to social media.

The images were posted to the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account, and show a smiling Louis outdoors in a blue jumper - one on his own, and another with him sitting in a wheelbarrow, being pushed along by his mother, Kate.

“Someone’s turning 5 tomorrow … A very happy birthday to Prince Louis,” the post read, before going on to thank photographer Millie Pilkington for immortalising the prince’s happy moment.

Pilkington also shared the images to her own account, where she wrote that she was “excited to share with you a couple of portraits of Prince Louis, to celebrate his 5th birthday today.”

She noted that it was an honour to be entrusted with the milestone photoshoot, and wished Louis “the very happiest of birthdays.”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Why Peter FitzSimons has defended Prince Harry

Outspoken journo and author Peter FitzSimons has defended Prince Harry in the wake of the slew of intimate bombshell revelations the young royal’s memoir Spare has presented to the public.

Mr FitzSimons, who is the husband of Lisa Wilkinson, responded firmly to a Twitter commenter who branded the prince a “sook” and a “weak man” who was effectively being “controlled by a manipulative woman” – stating that Harry’s wife Meghan Markle was in fact the direct cause for him “knifing his own family” with the release of Spare, and that “this is her revenge…using him to do the dirty work.”

“That is way too simplistic, in my view,” wrote FitzSimons in response to the Twitter user.

“His broad point is, "They have leaked against me and my wife for years. I am not leaking, I am putting my name to my views, and this is what happened." And to me he sounds credible.”

That is way too simplistic, in my view.
His broad point is, "They have leaked against me and my wife for years. I am not leaking, I am putting my name to my views, and this is what happened."
And to me he sounds credible. https://t.co/S0owBdBiMP

— Peter FitzSimons (@Peter_Fitz) January 9, 2023

Prince Harry has recently defended his actions in revealing family secrets in the biography during interviews with UK and US TV networks, saying that he was simply retaliating against being leaked against by other royals – including his stepmother Camilla Parker Bowles.

FitzSimons appears to agree with this stance, continuing: “As to the notion that he shouldn't tell family secrets, his equal point is that everyone else in the Royal Family has been leaking to the press for years. They have told several books worth, courtesy of the tabloid press. So, for once, he can tell his own story.”

In response to a different Twitter user who asked why an “intelligent man” would waste time thinking about the royal family, FitzSimons further revealed his reasons for defending Prince Harry, suggesting that the fallout between the young prince and the rest of the royal family would almost certainly have implications in the Australian republic debate.

“One reason is, the whole imbroglio speaks to the republic. The notion that this is a special family - put there by God to be so much better than the rest of us, that they must reign over us - is wearing a bit thin, yes?” he tweeted.

Despite having stepped down as head of the Australian Republican Movement last October, FitzSimons continues to lobby for Australia to dispense with heads of state that lie within a royal family.

On Tuesday morning Jan 10, Bill Shorten – Minister for Government Services for the Albanese government – also pushed for Australia to become a republic by saying on the Today show: “It's a shame to see a family bust-up but perhaps at the deepest level, why do we need to keep borrowing a dysfunctional British family to be the Head of State of Australia?

'It's gossip but scintillating. To me it just shows there's a lot of damage and trauma but at another level this is just family gossip.

“And it reminds me that this family are the head of state of Australia, so it really puts a question mark around our government structures, where we've got a feuding family on the other side of the world who seem to really not like each other very much - they're actually the head of Australia.”

Images: Instagram

Princess Catherine's adorable detail about Louis and George

Princess Catherine has revealed how her three young children are holding up following the loss of their great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

After Australia's Governor-General David Hurley arrived at Buckingham Palace on the weekend to attend the royal funeral, he spoke with the new Princess of Wales and has now recalled the conversation – during which Princess Catherine gave an insight into how Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are coping with the loss to the royal family.

Catherine revealed that Prince Louis is asking whether he will still be able to “play games” with the Queen at Balmoral.

Prince George, on the other hand, is reportedly "sort of now realising how important his great-grandmother was and what is going on” – but it appears that Prince Louis doesn’t yet quite understand, asking about the family’s visit to Balmoral Castle.

"The younger one is now asking questions like, 'Do you think we can still play these games when we go to Balmoral and things like that, cause she's not going to be there?’" Only weeks prior to the Queen’s passing, Prince William and Princess Catherine had spent time with their children and the Queen at Balmoral as part of their annual summer break.

The new Princess of Wales has also said her children were "being looked after at school" when asked how they were dealing with the loss.

Princess Catherine had made comments to well-wishers outside the gates of Sandringham House where herself and Prince William were looking at floral tributes left to the late Queen. "They're well, thank you very much, they're being looked after at school, so they are in a routine and are being looked after," Catherine said, in a video filmed by 9Honey's royal reporter.

The three Wales children have not been seen in public since the death of their great-grandmother, but are expected to have important roles for the ceremonies ahead.

Images: Getty

Little Louis' heartbreaking comment about "Grannie"

As mourners gathered outside Windsor Castle to pay their tributes to Queen Elizabeth, Kate, William, Harry and Meghan reunited in a show of solidarity.

As they spoke to heart-broken Britons about the Queen, Kate revealed the devastating comment her son Prince Louis made after hearing about the Queen's death.

Kate spoke of the touching anecdote while meeting people on the Long Walk, with 28-year-old Banita Ranow hearing the new Princess of Wales tell the children next to her what her 4-year-old son said.

She said Kate told the children, “Louis said ‘at least Grannie is with great grandpa now’.”

Ms Ranow said the Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge was “welling up” as she spoke to the children.

Ms Ranow, along with several others who attended the makeshift memorial, said it "so beautiful to see" the reunion of the Cambridges and the Sussexes in the wake of the Queen's death.

She said, “I felt so emotional and I felt the Queen would have loved it. I just hope in the future they remain like that and that the brothers come together, and the families.”

It was William and Kate’s first engagement under their new titles, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the first time they have appeared in public with Harry and Meghan since the National Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s Jubilee in June.

A royal source said the Prince of Wales asked his brother and his wife to join them in viewing the tributes, as they all inspected tributes to Queen Elizabeth and met with well-wishers at the gates of Windsor Castle.

"Do better": Project hosts roasted over "disrespectful" questions

Fans of musician Louis Tomlinson have slammed an "awkward" and "disrespectful" interview conducted by the hosts of The Project.

The former member of One Direction accused Carrie Bickmore and Peter Helliar of "stirring s***" during the tense appearance on Wednesday night, after they brought up a recent interview with Louis' former bandmate Liam Payne.

In the interview, Liam spoke of difficult relationships within the band before they split up in 2015, prompting Helliar to ask if there was any "beef" between the five former members of the band.

Helliar asked, “There’s been a bit of 1D beef recently thanks to Liam who’s been speaking out about the band a little bit. When you look back on your experience about the band, how do you feel about your experience of those days?”

Louis replied, “Oh, so the fishing’s begun already. Yeah, I see what you’re doing... No, listen, I’m immensely proud, as I know Liam is, I’m immensely proud of those days, obviously. It was an incredible thing to do, especially at such a young age and I have amazing memories, amazing memories.”

Bickmore chimed in, “When you say the fishing has begun - I imagine it is annoying have to answer retrospective questions like that. I am interested, how much do you want to talk about that time of your life to the media, versus how you don‘t want the talk about it again?” she asked.

“I’m more than happy to talk about it in every interview,” Louis replied.

“It’s something I’m immensely proud of, as I’d already said, it’s just when you mentioned the beef before, it sounded like you were getting ready to stir some s**t up, that’s all I’m saying.”

Helliar quickly jumped in to say, “No, I’m not a s**t stirrer Louis, do I look like a s**t stirrer?”

After more uncomfortable jabs from the hosts to the pop star, the interview wrapped politely, but Tomlinson's fans online were less than impressed.

“You had in your hands such an interesting and kind person and you wasted it completely (and wasted everyone‘s time),” wrote one.

“You should‘ve ask him for his WORLD tour, album, new album and all that stuff. But you made him uncomfortable with annoying questions of 1D. Stop relating him to that man or any of his ex bandmates, he’s a solo artist now, RESPECT HIM,” said another fan.

“Don’t ever waste his time like this again. If you want to ask questions completely unrelated to him, interview the people involved and leave Louis out of it. The man is busy on his first solo tour and yet makes the time to talk to you and you treat him like this. Do better,” wrote another.

View from the hot seat: Mike Tindall's insight into Prince Louis' antics

Going down as one of the most memorable moments from The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Mike Tindall has revealed the reason behind young Prince Louis' cheeky behaviour.

Tindall says the four-year-old prince had "complete sugar highs" during the Jubilee Pageant on Sunday after consuming handfuls of sweets behind the scenes.

In full view of the world's media, Prince Louis was seen putting his hand across his mum's mouth, trying to shush her as she attempted to tell him to sit still, making a funny face and blowing a raspberry in her direction.

Kate swiftly put Louis' hand down, before he did it again with his left hand.

The little prince was excited throughout the parade, running up and down the seats, pulling his cousin's hair and eventually jumping onto his grandfather Prince Charles' lap, for a quick break.

Tindall was photographed jokingly warning Louis that he was watching him from the seats above.

Two days earlier Prince Louis stole the show during Trooping the Colour, pulling a series of funny faces as the rest of the royals watched a flypast of aircraft from the palace balcony.

Tindall, also revealed the Queen's grandchildren and their families enjoyed a private lunch after Trooping, describing it was one of his highlights from the four-day celebrations.

He spoke about the Jubilee and Louis' mischievous antics on his podcast, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby.

"Louis, he was just wanting to have fun, and my two [daughters] are always mischievous, so it was trying to keep a lid on," Tindall said.

"There was a lot of sweets out back, though, so they had complete sugar highs. It's tough for them. They're all young, so asking them to sit, because it was two 'til five or whatever, it's a long time.

As any parent knows, you just do whatever needs to be done."

Tindall was seated directly behind the Cambridges at the Pageant with his wife Zara and their children Mia, eight, Lena, three and Lucas, one.

Prince William and Kate later joked about their youngest child's actions, writing on social media, "We all had an incredible time, especially Louis".

Image: Getty

Lip reader reveals insight into THOSE scenes between Kate and Louis

Prince Louis’ adorable antics certainly stole the show at the Platinum Jubilee, however, it seems not everyone was fond of his behaviour.

A lip reader captured a serious parenting moment between the Duchess of Cambridge and young Louis, as the family were sitting in the royal box on the final day of celebrations.

The Cambridges were enjoying the colourful floats at the pageant and Louis was seen pulling faces and getting tired and restless.

According to lip reading expert Jeremy Freeman, Kate had some stern words for her youngest during his grumpy moment.

Jeremy says when Kate spotted Louis picking his nose and put his hand down, she said to her son: "You have to."

"I don't want to," Louis reportedly answered, before cheekily covering his mum's mouth. Kate then replied: "I said no hands!" and gave him another serious look.

The lip reader says Kate once again told Louis to stop with his antics after he stuck his tongue out. "Stop doing that," she said.

A sweet moment between Prince Louis and his older cousin Mike Tindall was also caught on camera. While Louis was misbehaving, Mike was seen jokingly warning the young Royal that he was watching him from the seats above, gesturing to his eyes.

There were other moments when Louis sat in the lap of dad Prince William and granddad Prince Charles.

The Prince of Wales was seen bopping his grandson with his legs and also pointed out parts of the display to him.

Prince Louis was also spotted having a great time dancing along to the music as the floats went by.

Kate's relatable parenting moment captured the hearts of millions as they watched the Cambridges enjoy the Jubilee carnival.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made light of Louis' cheeky behaviour in an Instagram, sharing ten unseen photos from the Jubilee celebrations.

Freeman also caught a precious exchange between the Queen, and her great-grandson during their balcony appearance at Trooping the Colour.

Reportedly, Prince Louis looked up to his great-grandmother and asked: "Are the Red Arrows coming?"

The Queen replied, "I hope so." At one point, the Queen told Louis to "look at the smoke".

The young royal also expressed amazement at the Armed Forces jets, turning to his mother and saying: "Woah."

At the end of the display, the monarch told her great-grandson: "Let's go, it's finished now."

Body language expert Judi James told the publication that the monarch and Prince Louis shared "childlike excitement" on the balcony.

She explained: "Louis stepped in front of the Queen before tilting his head back to engage her in some animated conversation as they waited for the Red Arrows.

"Louis made this conversation look like the most natural thing in the world and his lack of anything bordering on fear suggested these two might share a rather close friendship based on shared fun behind the scenes, too."

Image: Getty

Prince Louis has stolen the show for a second time on the last day of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations by pulling faces and even shushing his mother, Kate Middleton - but his exuberant behaviour has prompted some to criticise how the four-year-old is being parented.

The little prince was seen clenching his fists, jumping up and down in his seat, and pulling a variety of exaggerated faces while watching Sunday’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant with his family in the royal box.

Prince Louis is the gift that keeps on giving #PlatinumJubileePageant pic.twitter.com/eDR8sMn2It

— Dan Walker (@mrdanwalker) June 5, 2022

Though plenty of people who took to social media about it found his antics to be quite delightful - describing him as iconic, expressive and “the gift that keeps on giving” - some weren’t as impressed.

“At what point do we go from ‘Wow, what a relatable toddler moment’ to ‘Wow, you have no control of your children’? Because that video is (cringe emoji),” one user wrote.

“I just think an expert in early years would have a better understanding of which events your 4 year old could handle and which events he can’t. And maybe understanding of how to control them a bit in public. There’s a whole gap between robotic and straight up badly behaved.

“And to be clear - I’m criticising the parents here. I’m not making fun of a child or picking on a child or whatever nonsense anyone is gonna say.”

Another added: “What’s cute now isn’t cute as a teen. Parents have a short window to create the parent child bond. Meaning parents need to set boundaries n stick to them.”

“If that’s the lack of discipline and boundaries they’re raised with I guess that’s how you get adults like William,” another said. “Harry is truly a miracle.”

Others thought the criticism was out of line, arguing that the royal children shouldn’t have to face that kind of criticism.

“This is exactly why Meghan and Harry don’t want to make their children available for public consumption,” one person replied. “Can you imagine the response if Archie did this?? Adorable Prince Louis upstages entire royal family

Adorable Prince Louis was seen jumping with glee and making all kinds of crazy faces after he was wowed by the Red Arrows during the Jubilee celebrations.

The young Prince, 4, beamed with excitement and chatted to his great-grandmother the Queen as they watched the impressive show from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Her Majesty is marking her 70 years on the throne with a four-day bonanza that kicked off with Trooping the Colour.

She was clearly very amused by Louis’ reaction as he excitedly awaited the spectacle in the sky.

Her Majesty watched the celebrations overhead, surrounded by her immediate family. Kate Middleton, 40, was seen whispering in little Louis’ ear before he frantically waved up above at the passing planes.

Prince Louis and his older sister Charlotte then continued their playful waves while the rest of the royal family grinned at the adorable children.

The Queen pointed into the distance, before eagerly chatting to Louis again – redirecting his attention to the latest RAF fly-past.

A very giggly Louis then started jumping up and down on the spot, despite appearing to have calming words whispered to him by his mother.

The young Prince then turned to his great-grandmother and asked her a question – as she looked adoringly back at the four-year-old.

Louis and Princess Charlotte then grabbed and covered their ears as the booming sounds overhead passed by.

As the Red Arrows aerial display team passed, Louis’ jaw dropped as the Prince turned again to the Queen in disbelief at the amazing sight.

The Queen was joined by senior royals including Prince Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton for a spectacular British Royal Air Force fly-past. Prince Andrew, Prince Harry and Meghan were noticeably absent after Her Majesty limited the line-up to working royals only.

However, the couple have been given prime seats to watch the landmark event after they arrived from the US on Saturday. It is not clear if children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, are in attendance.

A whopping 1200 officers and soldiers from the Household Division took part in the Birthday Parade this morning.

The display marked the first event of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bumper weekend.

Images: Getty

Kate Middleton admitted to the Queen her parenting struggles

A royal expert has claimed Duchess Kate opened up about her parenting struggles to the Queen, following the birth of Prince George.

Katie Nicholl who is a royal correspondent has claimed that both Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge struggled greatly following the birth of their first son, and found it difficult to manage parenting along with their royal duties.

In the documentary True Royalty: Kate Middleton: Heir We Go Again, Nicholl said, "Kate was having a conversation with the Queen in which she confided that she had found being with George on her own, and not having a full-time nanny or a maternity nurse, very hard."

Nicholl said the parents wanted to be "hands-on" and give Prince George a normal upbringing, however things did not go according to plan.

"They did it until September and then they recruited a nanny," said Nicholl.

The couple recruited Maria Borallo, who now cares for Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3.

William and Kate have Maria in the house for support, but Nicholl says Kate's mum, Carole, is also a stronghold for the royal couple and a great support.

"One of the things that allows William and Kate to be so ordinary is the presence of the Middletons in their lives.

"Carole is a regular through those golden gates at Kensington Palace, she whizzes through in her Land Rover. There is no security because everybody knows her," she said.

Since having children, Kate has spent a lot of her time supporting children and their families including those struggling with addiction, poverty, or homelessness.

The Duchess announced the launch of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood back in June, which aims to "transform" the lives of parents and children for "generations to come".

"My own journey into understanding the importance of early childhood actually started with adults, and not with children," she said.

"It was about prevention. I wanted to understand what more we could do to help prevent some of today's toughest social challenges, and what more we could do to help with the rising rates of poor mental health."

Images: Getty Images
